Breaking news: Jobs are supercool!
And I say it as an entrepreneur
Two years back, Shark Tank changed the Indian scenario.
The show came as an inspiration for everyone who wanted to startup in college or wanted to quit their job.
It was scary because most people started hating corporate jobs.
However, I was in a job at that time that gave me (and every member of the team) complete autonomy in their job.
Along with glamourising entrepreneurship (which I acknowledge is very hard), I would have also loved more people fall in love with the prospect of being a wonderful employee, and how you are the master of your job
Rather what happened was wonderful employees started rethinking their jobs.
Maybe we felt a sense of ownership only when we did not make a salary. Sadly.
The truth is, good employees:
Do great work
They take ownership
Are likeable yet firm on their values
Admit their mistakes when things don’t work out
And most importantly, they make their boss’ lives easier.
I have interviewed and hired several people in 2021-2023 and I can vouch for the fact that companies will do almost anything to get a good employee who is accountable, and is willing to learn and grow.
No startup can survive without great employees.
Employees > Entrepreneurs
Not everyone becomes an entrepreneur.
But everyone becomes an employee. Including the entrepreneur.
Once you get committed to being the most committed, dedicated and disciplined person you know, you can be a rockstar of your job.
Which is the only secret to making you a rockstar entrepreneur, if you’d want to become one.
Because my friend, if you hate the concept of job and that is the reason you want to get into entrepreneurship, it’s going to be even tougher.
Be easy for yourself. By learning to be an epic employee.
You cannot be an entrepreneur if you hate being an employee.
