Raw and Real Conversation
On 2nd January 2024, I caught cold.
Three days later, I tested positive for Covid.
After dodging the disease for almost 4 years, it now got the hold of me.
I was now quarantined.
Couldn’t even step out to take groceries that Quick Commerce delivered.
However, this also meant a few other things:
I couldn’t start on my New Year resolutions
It made my usual work suffer, too :)
There would be a dominos effect of my health for at least two months (thankfully, I was perfect by the end of January)
Well, if you look at my average steps for the first 2-3 weeks of January, it is virtually zero.
However, as I look back, 2024 was a great year too for me, overall.
Perhaps one of the best ones yet.
What changed, if the new year resolutions failed?
Well, I started making changes in my life the moment my body allowed and my mind was ready to comply. Instead of beating my bad luck, bad health or a not-so-good start to the year, I started wherever I could, whenever I could.
Which is what I want to suggest you today, my friend.
Researches suggest that 90% of New year Resolutions are broken by the 15th of January.
If you are also one of them, don’t worry.
You still have a clean slate and a fresh start, for a small change you want to make in January.
And by the time that change becomes automatic in March, you are again ready to make another change at that point of time.
Then another in May, June, August, October, December—whenever you are ready to make a change, the existing year will help you with open arms.
I tell this to you because I got the right to tell this only through my example of last year.
Like Steve Jobs said, “you can only connect the dots looking backward”, I figure that even though I did not start my year well, I still had the power to make it great.
Which is what I wish for you with my deepest intent:
You have the power to make your year great, no matter what point of year you are in.
May you always be an agent of positive change in your own life, that will undoubtedly have a ripple effect on everyone and everything else around you.
2 Raw One-Liners
To win the day, start with defining “what will make me win the day?”
When in doubt, the answer is no.
3 Real Gratitudes:
I was having a conversation in LinkedIn DMs with several topmost professionals in some well-known companies, and it is hilarious how they all know that they are in a corporate rut, and accept it while making it a joke on themselves. So much to internalise here.
I recommended a great book on negotiation to a client, who was in the middle of a negotiation. It is such a great book that I do not recommend it to anyone if I am working with them :)
The ability to walk. Most most people have it, yet most people choose not to walk. Please don’t be most people. Walk :)
Alright then, ladies and gentlemen.
I hope you found this meaningful.
